About the event
Join us for an afternoon of education and reflection as we screen People of the West episode “The American Dream.” People of the West explores California’s past through Native voices across ten episodes. Through Indigenous testimony, archival records, and cinematic dramatization, “The American Dream” reveals how the U.S. federal policy of Termination fractured communities, forced relocation to urban centers, and deepened poverty and instability for thousands of Native families—while also tracing the persistence of resistance by tribal leaders, organizers, and families.
Content Advisory: People of the West is rated PG-13. This series contains depictions of historic and systemic violence, abuse, and discrimination against Native Peoples. Viewer discretion is advised. Parental guidance is strongly recommended for audiences under thirteen.
