Julia Samaniego is a proud enrolled tribal member of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, where she serves as the tribal ethnobotanist. Her work is a powerful blend of traditional knowledge and modern ecological science, driven by a mission to teach others about the invaluable gifts and rich history provided by native plants. She shares her passion for the earth not only within her community but also as the Nursery Co-Manager for the groundbreaking Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossings, where she helps cultivate the native flora essential for restoring the ecosystem. A dedicated single mother of four, she demonstrates resilience and commitment in both her professional and personal life.
