Mike Starr

Senior Museum Educator

Michael Starr is a retired Professor of Geography, specializing in biological and conservation geography. He holds an MA in Anthropology, with an emphasis on the subsistence strategies of hunter-gatherer tribes in North America, especially in the Great Basin. For over 30 years, Mike taught college-level classes on subjects ranging from wilderness survival and outdoor leadership to weather, conservation and the geographical ecology of plants and animals.


Since retiring from university life, he has worked on his creative side (writing and drawing) and served as an educator at the Chumash Indian Museum, where he leads tours for both adults and grade school students and teaches about Chumash plant usage.
